CCA Maryland - Save Man O'War Shoal

Just off the coast of Southeastern Baltimore County lies Man O'War Shoal, the last large shoal in the Upper Chesapeake Bay. This critical underwater formation provides essential habitat for oyster populations, which play a vital role in maintaining the bay's ecological health. However, Man O'War Shoal faces a significant threat from proposed dredging activities.

Dredging could irreversibly damage the shoal's structure, leading to the destruction of oyster beds that serve as natural water filters and provide habitat for diverse marine life. Without these oyster populations, the bay's water quality would decline, further stressing an already fragile ecosystem. Protecting Man O'War Shoal is crucial to preserving the Chesapeake Bay's environmental integrity and sustaining its valuable oyster fisheries.
